In this installment, we highlight the University of Guelph Arboretum.

University of Guelph Arboretum

Location: College Avenue East, Guelph, Ontario, Canada

The Guelph Arboretum is a beautiful arboretum that was built in 1971 with inspiration from the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University.

Located within the University of Guelph and not far from Downtown, the Arboretum is a main attraction for several reasons whether you are a first-time visitor or current resident.

Firstly, it has 400 acres of a combination of gardens, trails, wetlands, woodlands and plants. It is open 12 months of the year, with more than 73,000 visitors each calendar year. In addition to being open to the average visitor, the site is also frequently used for studies, including research, teaching and other special events.

Turtles, raccoons, birds, and dozens of other species live in the arboretum and can be seen on a regular basis.

Second, the Arboretum is home to more than nine kilometres of walking trails spread out over six trails. The six trails are Ivey, Trillium, W-C Memorial Forest, Victoria Woods, Colonel John McCrae, and Wild Goose Woods.

Looking for a breathtaking walk through forests, gardens, and fields? The Arboretum at the University of Guelph is a wonderful place to take a quiet stroll at any time of year! The location also has non-forested trails that allow for joggers and runners to occupy.

Last, the area is the perfect location for stunning photos. Whether it's capturing wildlife in its natural habitat, catching the fresh forest trees breaking through the sky at sunrise, or having that family photo on a bench in the gardens, the Arboretum does not lack scenery!

If you're visiting the Royal City for the first time, are a student at the U of G, or are a long-time resident, the University of Guelph Arboretum is a place for all to enjoy!
